Team Zamzam: Residents overcome sexual violence stigma in North Darfur

Niemat says that the Team “can confidently say that we have been able to break the psychological barrier that resulted from stigma and social isolation” in Zamzam camp.
After a very difficult start, the psychological state of victims of sexual assault is improving steadily, with more victims approaching the counsellors every day. This has been aided by women and girls bringing their friends to sessions.
“This noble task has changed our lives, planted more fresh confidence in our abilities and most importantly is enabling us to work as women, to participate in social activities, and contribute to improving the psychological wellbeing of the forgotten victims - too long ignored by a male-dominated society, which ignores the harsh reality of sexual violence,” says Niemat. ....

North Darfur's Kutum still far from secure, Saraf Omra 'under control'

A displaced man was killed by militant herders in Kutum, North Darfur on Thursday. Paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of Saraf Omra yesterday.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, activist Yahya El Khumus told Radio Dabanga that Mohamed Sabah was on his way from the Fata Borno camp for the displaced to Kutum town when he was shot dead by militant herders.
“It happened in in Khor Jagedeldei, three kilometres from Kutum,” he said. “The perpetrators then fled in north-western direction.”
El Khumus criticised the security forces in Kutum. “The joint forces were informed early, but arrived at the scene more than three hours after the attack.” ....

Lawlessness continues in North Darfur's Kutum

In the area north of Kutum, a large group of armed herders is attacking cars and robbing the passengers. Two people were seriously injured yesterday when the attackers fired at a passenger car in the area of Khor Aweeja.
During the weekend, militant Arab herders, riding in 15 vehicles, intercepted traffic on the road north of Kutum, and robbed the drivers and passengers of their money and belongings, activist Yahya El Khumus told Radio Dabanga.
A large number of drivers and passengers were injured during the attacks. On Sunday, two men, Abubakir Mohamed and Ismail Khalil, sustained serious bullet wounds and had to be transferred to the hospital of Kutum. ....
