Indonesia’s Ministry of Religion Affairs has withdrawn a history textbook for Protestant students following a complaint by a Catholic priest who claimed the book contained misleading information.
In a letter dated March 4 to Holy Family Father Yohanes Kopong Tuan, who made the complaint, the head of the ministry s Protestant community guidance department said the book was withdrawn following a meeting with the book’s writer and editor.
It was decided to withdraw the book … for the time being until it has been properly scrutinized, the ministry said in the letter. ....

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley certainly knows his theology. He spoke at the 2019 commencement of King’s College and then rehashed his arguments in Christianity Today magazine. His target – a definition of democratic freedom by former Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. In 1992, Kennedy wrote:
“At the heart of liberty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life.”
Hawley objects to Kennedy’s every word. In fact, he describes this Enlightenment understanding of personal freedom as a Christian heresy.
Hawley takes us back to a theological dispute from the 5th century A.D. It concerned free will. Pelagius believed in the moral perfectibility of the human race. Saint Augustine disagreed, arguing that humanity was hopelessly corrupt since the Fall of Adam. “Original sin” he called it. It’s an argument Pelagius lost. He was condemned as a heretic by the Council ....
