Man who waved to family in JB from Woodlands jetty gets to virtually break fast with them in McDonald's

You might have come across videos of a man in Singapore waving to his family in Johor Bahru from a jetty at Woodlands Waterfront Park in October 2020.
The man was not able to visit his family as the Singapore-Malaysia borders were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The borders remain closed till now, although there have been talks that they might reopen soon.

But in this month of Ramadan, Muhamad Faiz the man from the viral videos got the chance to break fast with his family, albeit virtually.
Through McDonald s latest My Happy Table campaign, Faiz was able to reunite with his family on Apr. 26, 2021. ....

Publicis Singapore launches 'My Happy Table' campaign for McDonald's reuniting families between Singapore and Malaysia

McDonald’s Singapore celebrated this Ramadan with the launch of ‘My Happy Table’ via Publicis Communications Singapore. The physical activation uses technology and camera setup to help Singapore-based individuals “reunite” with their family in Malaysia. Through this experience, family members will once again be able to break fast together as though they are seated at the same table.

Set up at physical McDonald’s locations in Singapore and Johor Bahru, a full-sized hybrid table was created so family members from both Singapore and Malaysia can sit down together to have their McDonald’s meal. My Happy Table will be opened for public usage from 23 April to 28 April with call for entry starting on 19 April. The setup will be done within party rooms at the McDonald’s Canberra Plaza (Singapore) and McDonald’s Taman Desa Tebrau (Johor Bahru, Malaysia). ....

PETALING JAYA, April 19 A McDonald’s Singapore advertisement highlighting its Malaysian workers unable to reunite with loved ones during Ramadan is tugging hearts online.
The ad, released in conjunction with the holy fasting month for Muslims, focuses on the chain’s Singapore-based Malaysian workers separated from their family due to Covid-19 that necessitated border closures. ....

McDonald s Singapore has unveiled an emotional ad this Ramadan that reunited families across borders with its new initiative titled My Happy Table . The ad featured three of McDonald s Singapore staff who have family in Malaysia and are unable to travel back during Ramadan to break fast with their families due to the current travel restrictions. These staff shared their experience of being away from their families for almost a year, and what they hope to do with their families once they are reunited. McDonald s then surprised these staff with a projection of their families seated in McDonald s Malaysia. The projection seems to be an extension of the table where the featured McDonald s staff are sitting from, creating an realistic image of the virtually-reunited family sharing a meal together. ....
