Deputies cited a 22-year-old Miami angler on Saturday afternoon after he was found to be in possession of undersized yellowtail, mutton and mangrove snapper. Sgt. Nick Whiteman and Upper Keys Marine Deputy Nelson Sanchez inspected the catch of Alfredo Sifontes who was fishing at approximately 12:34 p.m. near Mile Marker 80. He was in possession of one 10-inch yellowtail snapper, an 8- and ¼-inch mutton snapper and one 8-inch mangrove snapper. Sifontes admitted to catching the fish. Sifontes stated he thought the fish were legal to keep, but he had no measuring device, Monroe County Sheriffâs Office spokesman Adam Linhardt said. ....

Jerry Clayton: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is expected to release their report next week on the massive number of fish deaths that occurred along the Texas coast during the recent winter storm. How widespread is the impact along the Texas coast? Shane Bonnot: The whole coast was affected, but for the large parts of Sabine in Galveston Bay, didn t see significant fish kills. However, when you get to east Matagorda Bay is when you really start to see the effects. And as you move down the coast, those effects are amplified. And certainly the lower Laguna Madre, it is quite evident that we had a significant event here. ....
A 31-year-old Stock Island man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation early Thursday morning after he was caught harvesting illegal mangrove snapper and gag grouper. Deputy Jonathan Lane was on patrol at 1 a.m. on the south end of the Boca Chica Bridge when he spotted Midelson Petit fishing, Monroe County Sheriffâs Office spokesman Adam Linhardt said. Deputy Lane asked if he had any luck and Petit said yes. Deputy Lane observed an open bucket that appeared to have small mangrove snapper on top. Petit had 13 mangrove snapper, 10 of which were less than the 10-inch legal size to harvest. The daily bag limit is 10 per angler. ....
