LEWISTOWN – In 2001 Nancy Hughes lost her husband to cancer. Her children were all grown with families of their own and she was wondering what to do with her life. So, she joined her local Rotary Club. Hughes didn’t know it at the time, but that decision would go one to improve the lives of thousands.
Tuesday members of the Rotary Club of Lewistown watched a presentation by Forest Resener on Hughes and the formation of the StoveTeam International program which helps facilitate the placement of the low-smoke, fuel-efficient and safe Justa cookstoves for Latin American families. ....

LEWISTOWN Tuesday’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Lewistown may have looked different from those held in 1921, but the club’s mission to provide service to others and promote goodwill hasn’t changed. The club kicked off their 100th year with a presentation from member Cher Harpster.
“I’m not quite sure how I became the historian of the Rotary Club of Lewistown, but I have learned a lot of interesting facts along the way.” Harpster said at the start of her presentation. According to Harpster research, in January or February of 1921 there were meetings held about the interest in starting a Rotary Club in the city of Lewistown. In March of that year the club was officially affiliated with the International Association of Rotary Clubs in the social room of the loca ....

LEWISTOWN The need for emergency medical technicians is at a critical point on both a local and a national level.
Local emergency agencies like Fame EMS in Lewistown are regularly looking to fill volunteer and career EMT positions, says Troy Long, paramedic at Fame, who is also the program coordinator and EMT instructor at The Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology.
“There is a severe shortage of EMTs and paramedics so we are well headed down the highway of a real EMS disaster in a few years,” he said. “The volunteer organizations are just like the career organizations. They can’t get enough manpower. They can’t hire enough EMTs or paramedics.” ....
