HAMPTON After two classes of University of New Hampshire students flip their tassels to the side this weekend to graduate, chances are pretty good they will be reaching for a brew born right here in Hampton to celebrate: Wildcat Tracks. Officially released on May 7, the crisp and flavorful traditional lager (4.7% alcohol by volume, 20 IBU) is the latest collaboration between Smuttynose Brewery and the state’s flagship university. Judging by the early returns this is one beer that may last in the award-winning brewery’s prestigious rotation all year long. “We’re going to keep putting it out as long as the demand is there and so far we have had a really great response from UNH alums and locals as well,” says Colleen Lynch, Smuttynose’s marketing manager. “We consider it a ‘crushable’ beer meaning that it’s not going to fill you like crazy, but there’s a lot of flavor there with every sip.” ....

Marc Sedam, managing director of UNHInnovation, said the brewing science program at UNH started in 2016. The college and Smuttynose partnered together to create a limited edition beer called 1866 at that time. UNH was founded in 1866, so it was brewed to celebrate the college s 150th anniversary. That went very well and we decided to come back and work with them on a product that would be developed and sold year-round, Sedam said in a video released by the college. ....
