A newly released report on the Well Child Tamariki Ora
service for children has been welcomed by Whānau Āwhina
Plunket, Aotearoa’s largest and only national provider of
Well Child services.
“We are pleased that review has
recognised and prioritised the need for a whānau-centred
approach that would see greater support for pēpi and
tamariki in the earliest years of their life, and for
honouring Te Tiriti commitments,” says Whānau Āwhina
Plunket CEO, Amanda Malu.

Māori lawyers are being encouraged to deepen their studies of the ture.
The Michael and Suzanne Borrin Foundation along with Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga, the Māori centre for research excellence, have created a scholarship for Māori law graduates who wish to obtain a post-graduate degree in law overseas or domestically.
A pool of $80,000 will be available annually which may be awarded to one scholar or split between two individuals.
Professor Jacinta Ruru, who co-designed the initiative, says it’s a game changer for Māori legal scholarship. ....

Montreal, Canada – Jean-Charles Pietacho says the belief that nature is a living thing that must be respected, has been at the heart of the Innu people’s way of life for generations.
But now, that idea has been applied in a new way as the Innu Council of Ekuanitshit in February recognised the Magpie River, a 300km (186 miles) waterway in the Cote Nord region of the Canadian province of Quebec, as a “legal person”. ....
