Police watchdog investigating the death of two people in Quebec near New Brunswick border

MONTREAL
Quebec s Independent Investigation Bureau (BEI) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of two people in a Listuguj, Gaspe residence on Saturday.
Police officers from the Listuguj Police Department received a report of shots fired at around 11:30 a.m at a residence on Riverside Rd. in the community near the Quebec-New Brunswick border.
According to preliminary information gathered by the BEI, when police arrived on the scene a few minutes later, they heard more gunshots.
A 28-year-old man inside the house was refusing to cooperate with police, according to testimony gathered by the BEI.
The Surete du Quebec (SQ) was then called to assist and took responsibility for the case, before launching a hostage operation. ....

'Yellow is really beautiful': Edmundston works to recover after over 70 days of lockdowns and 24 COVID-19 deaths

ST-LEONARD, N.B.
New Brunswick s health zone four, better known as the Edmundston region, spent over 240 days without a case of COVID-19 in 2020, but 2021 hasn t been as kind.
Within a couple of weeks, the region saw over 700 cases. Several long-term care homes suffered outbreaks.
Of the province s 41 COVID-19 deaths, 24 are from the area. It s spent over two months in a state of lockdown.
But on May 11, the region was able to return to the less-restrictive yellow phase of recovery.
Yellow is really beautiful right now for our city, said acting mayor Eric Marquis. It s been a tough couple of months, even more than a couple of months…we ve seen that we can bring down those cases and we can take control of our situation. ....
