The Daily Reporter A picture taken after a Saturday morning fire at 129 Hayton Ave. in Coldwater has gone viral on Coldwater area social media. Firefighters from the Coldwater and Quincy Fire departments had taken a knee in the street. The fire was out. All five residents made it safely out of the destroyed home because of alerts by smoke detectors There were no injuries among the emergency personnel. The firemen gathered near their trucks. Coldwater Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz said it is something he started up when he came back as chief. “We do a little debrief, he said. We take a knee or bow our heads and say a little pray for allowing us to do what we do. We pray for the homeowner for their recovery and ask God to watch over them. And to keep us safe as we travel home.” ....
Hillsdale woman hurt in fifth Branch County injury crash this week By Jim Measel May 13, 2021 | 8:41 AM QUINCY TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) â A bad week on Branch County roads continued on Thursday morning as a Hillsdale woman was injured when her small SUV crashed into a tree east of Quincy. The crash on U.S. 12 near Boone Road was reported just before 7:00 a.m. and was investigated by the Branch County Sheriffâs Office. They say deputies and Quincy Fire/Rescue removed 41-year-old Tosha Boyd and began treatment on her. Lifecare Ambulance later took her to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital in Coldwater. ....
By Jim Measel May 10, 2021 | 7:23 PM ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) â Two persons were injured Monday afternoon in what turned out to be the third injury crash of the day in Branch County. The Branch County Sheriffâs Department says the crash happened at 3:19 p.m. on Fisher Road east of Hoopes Road in Algansee Township. They say an eastbound vehicle driven by 20-year-old Emmett George Johnson Junior of Hobart, Indiana was traveling to fast in a curve. Johnson then lost control, crossed the center line, left the road and struck a tree. He was cited for impeding traffic. Johnson and passenger 19-year-old Kendra Kling of Reading were treated at the scene and later went on their own to a nearby hospital to be checked out. ....
The Daily Reporter A mother with two small children pulled out in front of motorcyclist David Hoffman, 66, Tuesday afternoon, causing him to crash. The 22-year old Steuben County, Ind., driver had stopped eastbound on Campbell Road. She did not see another vehicle. The woman told Branch County Sheriff deputies she turned to the back seat to put a pacifier in her baby’s mouth, then deal with her young son. She then pulled forward into the path of the Harley-Davidson, which struck her passenger door. Hoffman, who was not wearing a helmet, went down and suffered head lacerations. A Branch County Road Commission grader driver helped deputies tend to Hoffman until LifeCare arrived to take the man to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. His injuries were not life threatening. The bike was totaled. ....
