Every year Quinte News looks back at the year that was across the Quinte region, with all municipalities in our listening area.
We talked with Tyendinaga Township Reeve Rick Phillips about the challenges and victories of 2020.
He says COVID-19 changed the game.
“We did not run many of our programs or events such as the Christmas parade.  All of the minor sports of course were cancelled.  We were fortunate that we were able to help South Hastings (baseball league) and a series of games to keep that streak alive.”  (note:  South Hastings baseball is one of the longest continuing baseball leagues in the world.) ....

42 charges laid in coffee shop damage, downtown damage

A total of 42 charges have been laid in connection with downtown vandalism in Quinte West.
On Thursday morning, Quinte West OPP attended a Front Street business in response to mischief that occurred earlier in the morning.
After an extensive investigation, officers arrested two teen boys aged 16 and 17.
The charges relate to 17 different occurrences in Quinte West, including the releasing of barges on the Trent River, arson, and mischief to a Front Street Coffee Shop.
The investigation also led to mischief allegations against the COVID testing site in Centennial Park.
The youths are charged with mischief endangering life, arson, break and enter and more. ....

Quinte West business owner believes hate is behind slurs, arson, and vandalism

He has only been open for a few weeks, however the incidents continue to mount at a new coffee and wine bar in Quinte West.
Twenty-one-year-old St. Theresa Secondary grad Taylor Russett opened the Grind and Vine (downtown Trenton, next to the Farmers Market) in late October, and has already seen acts of vandalism, property damage, arson, and now a possible hate crime.
