The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced yesterday that 15-time JUNO Award-winning band and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees
The Tragically Hip will perform with singer-songwriter Feist during The 50th Annual JUNO Awards next month. The Hip will be without their iconic front-man Gord Downie, who passed away back in 2017. The Hip will also be receiving the 2021 Humanitarian Award from Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush. The Humanitarian Award recognizes outstanding Canadian artists or industry leaders whose humanitarian contributions have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada and beyond. The Hip s performance from Toronto will be broadcast on Sunday, June 6th at 8PM EST on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music and streaming globally on CBCmusic.ca/junos. ....

The manager of the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce says 2021 will be a year that will include COVID-19, but hopefully a year of growth as well.
Suzanne Andrews talked to Quinte News about the year ahead, and says technology will be a focus in the next 12 months.
“It was a catalyst for a lot of small businesses to get more digital.  I think that it is something that has been around for the last couple of years.  The government has funded this because they knew that we had to encourage small businesses to get more digital to get online, make sure they had websites and the software needed to survive and compete.” ....

POLICE RELEASE: Arrest on warrant, mischief


Mischief
Belleville Ontario- On January 2, 2021 at 9:37 a.m., officers attended a residence on Elgin St. regarding mischief. Officers received information that a young person had broken some items in the residence and then left the scene. After a short period of time, the male youth, from Belleville, attended the Belleville Police Service and turned himself in. He was charged with mischief under $5000 and breach of probation. He was held for bail hearing on January 3, 2021.
Arrest on Warrant
Belleville Ontario- On January 2, 2021 at 11:31 p.m., officers attended in the area of a Millennium Drive business in regards to a suspicious male pushing a shopping cart. Upon arrival, the male was located. A record check indicated that 28-year-old David Reid of Belleville was wanted on an outstanding charge of fail to appear for fingerprints stemming from previous charges. He was arrested and held for a bail hearing on January 3, 2021. ....

LOOKING TO 2021: Hastings County

2021 is upon us, and in the challenges and priorities are always on the front burner for Hastings County Warden Rick Phillips.
Phillips says although COVID-19 is the main priority, there are a number of issues that have to continue moving forward.
“… new ambulance base in Central Hastings.  We are doing a study to see where that would be relocated.  Continuing to work on the four hours of direct care per day per resident with the Government of Ontario.  Air conditioning for Centennial Manor (Bancroft), and Hastings Manor (portions of the building not air conditioned).  Affordable housing.” ....
