Glenn Howells Architects has been given the green light by Birmingham planners for a 49-storey residential tower at Argent’s Paradise scheme in the city.
The 155m tall building is called Octagon because of its shape and will be one of the tallest in a glut of towers planned for the city.

Plans for 46-storey Westfield tower unveiled

Developer URW and Glenn Howells Architects have unveiled designs for a 46-storey tower next to the Westfield shopping centre in west London,

In 2017, Allies and Morrison was granted outline planning permission for 1,347 homes across three sites on behalf of developer Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW), which owns the Westfield shopping centre and the surrounding land.
Under the previous plans, the scheme – named Site C – was set to have 1,100 homes across eight blocks, ranging from eight to 23 storeys in height. Glenn Howells has now submitted revised outline plans to Hammersmith and Fulham Council for Site C, which would see 1,760 homes provided across nine blocks, up to 45 storeys in height. As well as the 45-storey tower, the scheme would also feature a 34-storey tower, a 24-storey block and two 19-storey blocks. ....

Contractors are on alert after Argent was given the green light this morning by Birmingham planners for a 49-storey residential tower at its Paradise scheme in the city.

Ferry Meadows aims to become the region’s favorite park by creating improved leisure, recreation, cultural and environmental provisions, and make the park a more attractive prospect for families during the winter months. As Glenn Howells explains, the Lakeside Activity Centre will be located next to and share a site with the existing Nene Outdoors watersports and activity center, creating a defined hub of sport, play, recreation and leisure that s away from the more sensitive nature-rich areas of the Park.

The project plans also aim to improve the biodiversity and natural habitats in the park by substantially increasing the number of trees and canopy cover, as well as creating landscaping and bird and pollinator friendly planting. Inspired by the geometry and materials of climbing, the form of the building is intended to create an iconic landmark in the park. ....

Architect Gordon Shrigley stumbled across London City Island in the Leamouth Peninsula during lockdown, and has given this newspaper his view of the kooky development.
A Covid-19 lockdown cycle tour of Canning Town found me at the Leamouth Peninsula, which has recently been redesigned from the ground up by Glenn Howells Architects.
To celebrate the reinvention of the peninsula, developer EcoWorld Ballymore has renamed it London City Island - which given it isn’t actually an island and is six miles from the City of London, is a good example of up-marketing. ....
