Latest deal is for law firm DLA Piper
Morgan Sindall-owned Overbury will start work this month on a £4.7m fit-out deal at DLA Piper’s new office at Two Chamberlain Square in Birmingham.
The law firm is expected to move into the building, part of Argent’s £700m Paradise scheme in the middle of the city, later this year.
The building was completed by Bam last year
Designed by Glenn Howells, the eight-storey building was completed by Bam last year when the law firm was originally due to move in. But the covid-19 pandemic delayed the move with Overbury expected to finish the job later this summer. ....

Place North West | PLANNING | Speakers House refused, Debenhams approved

Refusing a 17 storey building IN A CITY CENTRE for blocking views of another building of a similar height seems shady. Aren’t there plans on the opposite site of the road on the Renaissance Hotel site for buildings of height in future plans too? Will these too be refused because they block views? Can we only now have one building of height at that end of Deansgate? The Speakers House scheme would massively improve that area of Deansgate and St Ann’s Square and replace the current eyesore of a building on the site.

The fact that the council have refused the speakers house development yet again proves just how short sighted they are. Replacing a ghastly 1960s block with something that will revitalise this part of town should have flown through, but instead, they just want to satisfy the NIMBY population in no. 1 Deansgate. ....

Light+Tech: Facade lighting - DesignCurial

Light+Tech: Facade lighting
Words by Jill Entwistle
Although facades are self-evidently about the exterior of a building, they cannot be considered as a separate entity. From a practical, aesthetic, even branding point of view, they are informed by the building as a whole, particularly the interior. A widespread example of the latter is the lantern effect – where the interior of glazed buildings provides the night-time illumination, or integrated lighting in the facade creates a similar effect. However, during an awards judging session recently, an eminent lighting designer raised the issue of light pollution where that approach was concerned. Clearly context, consideration and control, as in all design, is key. ....
