Vincennes Civitan Club honors Citizens of the Year — healthcare workers

By Syndicated Content Apr 30, 2021 5:11 PM VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In a ceremony at Gregg Park, the Vincennes Civitan Club honored local healthcare workers as the 2020 and 2021 Citizens of the Year by unveiling a new park bench and planting three trees. While the event has honored individuals in the past, this year’s ceremony recognizes healthcare workers and volunteers as a group. The Civitan Club wanted to thank those who have protected the community during the pandemic. “They put their life on the line to protect everybody and we feel like they truly deserve more recognition than this, but I think this is a nice way of saying thank you,” said Civitan Club president Amy Kaiser.

(WTWO/WAWV) The Kiwanis and Vincennes Parks and Recreation Department’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday in Gregg Park, 2204 Washington Ave. Last year, the pandemic allowed no eggs to be discovered. You can hear the birds out here, even though it s a little cool today, but we re really looking forward to it. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with the hunt following at 11:00 a.m. Children will be divided into four age groups and prizes will be given out after the hunt.

A beloved holiday tradition returns

A holiday tradition once beloved by long-time residents of the city’s historic Burnett Heights neighborhood is making its triumphant return tonight. People who have lived in the Heights, located in the hills above Gregg Park on Washington Avenue, for many years likely remember a time when three streets in that neighborhood — Burnett, Old Orchard and Audubon — were lined with luminaries on Christmas Eve night. It’s a tradition that was popular for years — with vehicles lining those streets, bumper-to-bumper, for hours — but also one that eventually was lost to time. Relatively new Heights residents Justin and Kelly Lowe, however, upon hearing the tales of luminary-filled Christmases past, have decided to bring it back.
