GSA starts big push toward commercial cloud
The General Services Administration has made clear that it knows what it wants in kicking off market research phase for what is shaping up as a massive blanket purchase agreement for enterprise cloud services.
A wide-range of commercial cloud services will be available on a pay-as-you-go basis via the BPA: including software-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service and infrastructure-as-a-service. The vehicle also will include cloud security requirements and services related to cloud implementation.
All federal, state and local government agencies can have access to the contract. GSA is pushing it as a mechanism for agencies to replace legacy IT services and products, while also leveraging cloud offerings already available through the GSA schedule. ....

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -In 2020, the Georgia High School Association sanctioned bass fishing as an official sport. Soon after, the season was effectively ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 8 the first GHSA State Bass Fishing Tournament is set to take place.
Robert Miller said he started fishing as a kid because of his grandpa, and Matthew Gunn said he got into it because of his dad. The two say they’re best friends, and because of that, they make a great team. ....

Singtel starts issuing SIM cards for 5G standalone network

Singtel now offers mobile customers a choice of SIM cards that are ready for its upcoming 5G standalone (SA) network, after it installed equipment at “hundreds” of sites across Singapore.
The country’s largest telecom operator said today that it had set up 5G SA sites at Orchard Road, the Central Business District, Harbourfront and Sentosa, while expanding indoor coverage at VivoCity, Ngee Ann City and selected Singtel shops across the island.
While the 5G SIM cards are symbolic for now – there are no commercial 5G SA networks in Singapore now – they do give impatient techies who want to be the first to experience 5G an option to get ready for the launch, which market watchers expect to be later this year. ....
