He departs after working at the agency since 2017 as deputy assistant commissioner of acquisition management within the Office of Information Technology Category (ITC). Nakasone’s last day is June 1, leaving GSA after 32 years in the federal government to take up a role in the private sector. Following his departure, Nakasone’s responsibilities will be taken on in an acting capacity by Cheryl Thornton-Cameron, who is executive director of ITC Schedule Contract Operations at the agency. ....
By Adam Mazmanian May 19, 2021 In the wake of infiltration of government and private networks through SolarWinds software and the ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline, lawmakers are looking to reduce the exposure of federal and critical infrastructure systems to hacks. The Pentagon’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program is designed to be one key line of defense. The program sets out five maturity models applicable to defense industrial base contractors based on the level of sensitivity of information stored in their systems. Under the program, obtaining a certification of compliance at the appropriate risk level is an allowable cost. However, the extent to which contractors may have to dig into their own pockets to obtain certification is a running concern so much so that Kathleen Hicks, the deputy secretary of defense, ordered a review of the program in March. ....
The General Services Administration is soliciting feedback from industry on a planned new, multiple-award blanket purchase agreement to provide cloud infrastructure, storage, software and services to federal agencies and state and local governments. The agency is seeking responses by May 24 on the new enterprisewide cloud acquisition strategy. A news release announcing the request for feedback notes that the trend towards cloud adoption has been accelerated by the demands of the pandemic and telework. In a statement released on Thursday, GSA IT Category Deputy Assistant Commissioner Keith Nakasone said the top request his office receives from various agencies is for an acquisition solution which offers a full set of commercial, secure, soup-to-nuts, cloud products and services. ....
