(WLOX) - Every Mardi Gras season, people line the parade route in Pascagoula to watch the floats roll down Ingalls Avenue, but this Mardi Gras season the sidewalks will be empty. The Jackson County Carnival Association has canceled their 2021 Mardi Gras parade. Jackson County Carnival Association Vice President David Grafton said insurance for the parade jumped from $2,000 in 2020 to around $20,000 for 2021. On top of the increasing cost, COVID-19 cases are also rising, so the JCCA turned to the Pascagoula City Council and Mayor Dr. Steve Demetropoulos for advice regarding public safety. ....
Jackson County Mardi Gras parades latest COVID victims Updated Dec 22, 2020; JACKSON COUNTY, Mississippi It appears the good times will not roll in 2021. Mardi Gras krewes and organizations across the Mississippi coast, as well as New Orleans and Mobile, have announced the cancellation of most carnival parades for 2021 amidst continuing COVID-19 concerns and it appears the five largest parades in Jackson County will also fall victim to the virus outbreak. A few weeks ago, Ocean Springs aldermen gave approval for the annual Ocean Springs Elks Parade, scheduled for Jan. 30. Now, however, with most other parades being or soon to be cancelled, aldermen are set to meet in a special call meeting Wednesday night to discuss the issue. ....
