Worthington school board awards $12.9 million community ed building bid

WORTHINGTON The District 518 school board voted Tuesday night to award a bid to Hoogendorn Construction to build the planned community education building.
Hoogendorn s bid came in at $12,995,000, with two alternates: including terrazzo floor in some areas for an additional $128,000, and a reduction of $5,000 to refrain from building a temporary road.
The sub-contractor Henning Construction, planning to do the site prep for Hoogendorn, made a few recommendations to consider in case of a wet construction season, including more surge rock on the access road and parking lot and a six-foot deep building pad. If these changes need to be implemented, it will cost an additional estimated $330,650, but the board did not have to decide on these expenses as part of awarding the bid. ....

WORTHINGTON After years of working with property owners to address a public health nuisance, Nobles County Community Services requested action from commissioners Tuesday to raze a house at 108 Kentucky Ave., Adrian. The home is owned by LeRoy and Lori Pettibone, who continue to reside at the residence.
The county’s public health unit has responded to complaints about the property since the fall of 2019, and nuisance issues continue to persist.
Jason Kloss, environmental health manager with Southwest Health and Human Services, completed an updated inspection of the home on April 8. His report details numerous concerns, from food residue and food packaging and debris accumulating in every room of the property to human feces accumulating in the toilet, animal feces accumulating on the floor, non-functioning freezers and a refrigerator that contained decaying f ....
