ANGOLA â If there was any reminder of what tourismâs impact on Steuben County was like before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was the Fourth of July weekend. Some are saying it was as busy as ever, with thousands of visitors out on Steuben Countyâs lakes, dining in restaurants, shopping and staying at hotels. Perhaps the biggest indicator of a huge holiday weekend was Pokagon State Park where it was estimated some 15,000 people visited from Friday through Monday, based on gate fees and park pass use. ANGOLA â The Board of Trustees of the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County unanimously approved using the services of University Superintendent Search Team to find a replacement for outgoing Superintendent Brent Wilson in a special session Thursday. Board president Cory Archbold explained that the education departments of the teamâs four Indiana public universities specialize in the training and education of superintendents and the team helps conduct background and internet checks on candidates. âThey help in recruiting, reviewing, and going through â letâs say, thereâs a hundred applications for a position. They would take and start whittling those down and doing reference checks,â Archbold said. âThey do a lot of that, far more than any of us can do and have the time to put into that type of thing.â ....

ANGOLA â The Metropolitan School District of Steuben County Board of Trustees came under fire at Tuesday nightâs board meeting concerning the recent loss of Superintendent Brent Wilson and Buildings and Grounds Director Heath Wagner. âYouâre going to hire a new superintendent. I donât think you people are qualified for that,â said Larry Ice, one of the attendees at Tuesday nightâs board meeting. âI donât think you seven could hire anyone and agree.â Wilson, MSDâs superintendent since 2006, sued the school board in March 2020 for breach of contract after it removed a previously provided automatic rollover provision in 2016. ....
