ANGOLA â If there was any reminder of what tourismâs impact on Steuben County was like before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was the Fourth of July weekend.
Some are saying it was as busy as ever, with thousands of visitors out on Steuben Countyâs lakes, dining in restaurants, shopping and staying at hotels.
Perhaps the biggest indicator of a huge holiday weekend was Pokagon State Park where it was estimated some 15,000 people visited from Friday through Monday, based on gate fees and park pass use. Thatâs the maximum social carrying capacity at the park, said June Julien, executive director of the Steuben County Tourism Bureau.
