Codiac Transpo Eyes Road To Recovery

(Photo: submitted by City of Moncton) As the vaccine rollout continues, Codiac Transpo is looking to gradually increase its service back to pre-pandemic levels. Phase one of the Codiac Transpo Service Recovery Plan was presented to Moncton City Councillors at Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting. It forecasts a year-end cost of $56,000 with a start date of June 6, 2021. Among the highlights included in the first phase of the service return plan are 65 additional hours of service every week, a recall of three operators and service on three statutory holidays. Residents can also ride for free on Election Day, Environment Week (June 2, 3, 4) and New Year’s Eve.

Petitcodiac River restoration project closes major thoroughfare

For motorists, this six-month road closure will cause some headaches. It’s one of just two links between these communities, which is the main reason it’s taken this long for a new bridge to be built in the first place. Monday morning was the first day that area commuters had to deal with the new traffic flow. While local media aired plenty of images showing backed up traffic, representatives from municipal councils said the snarls were not as bad as expected, with commutes taking about 15 minutes longer than normal. A cursory glance at social media posts by drivers in the area seem to back up that claim.

City Of Moncton Strikes Deal With Transit Union

(Photo: submitted by City of Moncton) The City of Moncton and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1290 came to a collective agreement for Codiac Transpo bus operators, mechanics and service personnel. The 5-year pact is retroactive starting September 1, 2019 and will see the 93 affected employees earn an annual average wage increase of 1.61%. A new deal is long overdue after the previous agreement ended in August 2019, however with the effects of the pandemic, negotiations only began in December 2020. In addition to wage increases, changes were made to the language requirements and hikes were given to annual tool allowances as well as shift premiums. This agreement will last until December 31,2024.
