More than 20,000 appointments missed at University Hospitals Dorset


MORE than 20,000 appointments were missed at University Hospitals Dorset during 11 months of the Covid-19 pandemic, figures show.
And the hospital trust, which covers the Royal Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole hospitals, potentially lost more than £3 million as a result.
The failed appointments waste time and heap pressure on consultants who already face “extraordinary demand” due to the virus, says the British Medical Association.
NHS Digital data shows that in the 11 months from April last year, there were 21,675 outpatient appointments which people did not show up for.
It means out of 263,850 booked sessions, eight per cent were unattended.
And with the average outpatient appointment costing £160 – as estimated by several NHS trusts – the no-shows may have cost University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust around £3.5 million. ....

Around one in 10 hospital appointments were missed by patients at Bedfordshire Hospitals Trust during the coronavirus pandemic – potentially losing almost £10 million.
The failed appointments waste time and heap pressure on consultants who already face “extraordinary demand” due to the virus, says the British Medical Association (BMA).
NHS Digital data shows that in the 11 months from April last year, there were 62,455 outpatient appointments which people did not show up for.
Bedford Hospital
It means out of 596,420 booked sessions, 10 per cent were unattended.
And with the average outpatient appointment costing £160 – as estimated by several NHS trusts – the no-shows may have cost Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust around £10 million. ....

Anger over 45,000 missed hospital appointments at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust


A HAMPSHIRE health provider saw more than 45,000 patients fail to attend appointments during the pandemic, according to NHS Digital.
In the 11 months from April last year, patients missed a total of 45,305 outpatient appointments booked by staff at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
Some of the patients are thought to have stayed away because they were afraid of catching coronavirus.
But the British Medical Association (BMA) said missed appointments wasted valuable time when consultants were rushed off their feet as a result of the pandemic.
Royston Smith, Tory MP for Southampton Itchen, urged people to tell the trust if they were unable - or unwilling - to keep an appointment. ....

WORCESTERSHIRE Acute Hospitals Trust potentially lost more than £3 million due to thousands of missed appointments through the pandemic, figures show.
The failed appointments waste time and heap pressure on consultants who already face “extraordinary demand” due to the virus, says the British Medical Association. NHS Digital data shows that in the 11 months from April last year, there were 19,865 outpatient appointments which people did not show up for.
It means out of 514,220 booked sessions, 4% were unattended. And with the average outpatient appointment costing £160 – as estimated by several NHS trusts – the no-shows may have cost Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust around £3.2 million. Across England s health providers, 5 million appointments were missed during the same period to the end of February, around 7% of those booked – wasting the NHS an estimated £760 million. University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust potentially lost more than £3 million due to thousands of missed appointments through the pandemic, figures show.
The failed appointments waste time and heap pressure on consultants who already face “extraordinary demand” due to the virus, says the British Medical Association.
NHS digital data shows that in the eleven months from April last year, there were 24,310 outpatient appointments which people did not show up for.
It means out of 419,975 booked sessions; six percent were unattended.
