Beckenham: Victorian heritage campaign opposes flats

A campaign has been launched in opposition to a new residential development dubbed “HMP Beckenham” in a bid to preserve the area’s Victorian heritage.
A planning application has been lodged to knock down a brick building on Bromley Road, last used as a care home, replacing it with 27 flats across two blocks.
Concerned residents say the property is crucial to the Victorian character of the Oakhill area, and that the proposed development, which “looks like a prison”, is a depressing contrast to the lovely stone, brick and timber windows of neighbouring houses.”
Campaigner Jane Davies said “It is a crying shame that Bromley council would even consider such an ugly overdevelopment that completely ignores the wishes of local residents, spoils the look of the area and destroys Beckenham s heritage.’ ....
