THE Iloilo City Government has given some 8,000 seedlings as of April to 36 barangays in support of massive tree-planting activities all over the metropolis.
Executive Assistant for Environment Armando Dayrit and staff distributed seedlings that are mostly fruit-bearing and flowering trees such as fire trees, Palawan cherries, and golden shower trees.
“We encourage everyone to plant more trees. Trees greatly benefit our people and the city. It improves air quality, provides shade, mitigates storm water, and also enhances the architecture of our community,” Dayrit said.
Continuous tree planting activities and maintenance are also conducted along the circumferential road, highways and floodways. ....
