Several businesses in Decatur are no longer requiring customers to wear masks after the state and city mask mandates expired on Friday.

We spoke with several of those businesses to hear how they re doing without a mask mandate.
Whisk D Cafe and The Sassy Owl Boutique are two local businesses in Decatur where you are not required to wear a mask.
We put mask signs up. You can t make the people wear em, but our employees are wearing them and the patrons can wear them if they want, said Bonnie Parsons. ....

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - The statewide mask mandate for Alabama expires Friday, April 9, but on Monday, it was all about the city of Decatur’s position on masking.
During their city council meeting, leaders talked about repealing the local mask order, but the vote on repealing the mask order for Decatur never happened as a unanimous vote for immediate consideration was required. In other words, there was a vote to vote and the first vote didn’t pass. ....

Apr. 4 Decatur business operators said they’re ready for the state mask mandate to end Friday, but most plan to encourage customers and staff to continue mask wearing, at least in the short term.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has said she’ll let the order requiring masks expire Friday.
“If Gov. Ivey drops the mask mandate, we’re not going to require masks to be worn,” said Charles Christopher, manager of Martin’s Family Clothing. “However, our associates will be wearing them for the time being. We’ll monitor other businesses and see how our customers react to any change. Presently, we encourage our customers to wear them. I believe most people are like me, we’re ready for most things to get back to normal.” ....
