The next steps for the Decatur city mask order What comes next for Decatur s city mask mandate By Tiffany Thompson | April 5, 2021 at 10:49 PM CDT - Updated April 5 at 11:09 PM DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - The statewide mask mandate for Alabama expires Friday, April 9, but on Monday, it was all about the city of Decatur’s position on masking. During their city council meeting, leaders talked about repealing the local mask order, but the vote on repealing the mask order for Decatur never happened as a unanimous vote for immediate consideration was required. In other words, there was a vote to vote and the first vote didn’t pass.

Decatur businesses to proceed with caution with masks

Decatur businesses to proceed with caution with masks Updated Apr 04, 2021; Michael Wetzel; The Decatur Daily, Ala. (TNS) Apr. 4 Decatur business operators said they’re ready for the state mask mandate to end Friday, but most plan to encourage customers and staff to continue mask wearing, at least in the short term. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has said she’ll let the order requiring masks expire Friday. “If Gov. Ivey drops the mask mandate, we’re not going to require masks to be worn,” said Charles Christopher, manager of Martin’s Family Clothing. “However, our associates will be wearing them for the time being. We’ll monitor other businesses and see how our customers react to any change. Presently, we encourage our customers to wear them. I believe most people are like me, we’re ready for most things to get back to normal.”
