Councillors on Derry & Strabane Council have unanimously approved a motion that will see its Business and Culture section include the film industry in its structure and work proactively to attract film location contracts to the City and District.

The motion was brought by SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack who has been dealing with Derry man and location manager Gavin Kelly.
The Foyleside Councillor said: “The SDLP believes in a just and prosperous new Ireland and as members of this Council, myself and my party believe that Derry and District deserve much lasting prosperity long denied to our region. ....

Derry Council to write to Taoiseach over cross-border travel fines - Highland Radio


 
Derry City and Strabane District Council is set to write to the Taoiseach, raising concern over travel fines in the Republic.
People in the North who cross the border into the likes of Donegal could potentially be met with a 100 hundred euro fine if Gardai here deem their trip to be non-essential.
However residents in the south who may travel into the North are not facing the same sanctions as there are no similar fines being handed out by the PSNI.
The issue was initially raised by DUP Cllr Keith Kerrigan, says the fines are unfair: ....

There were heated exchanges today as Derry City and Strabane District Council met to ratify its latest rates increase.
The council have agreed to strike a rates increase of 1.89% which will equate to a yearly rise of £9.16 for each household in the council area.
This was the lowest rates increase made by the council, and its predecessor Derry City Council, since 1973.
However, the council was split on the increase, with some councillors saying that there should have been no rates increase this year as a result of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic. ....
