A Black Vietnam War veteran was nominated for the Medal of Honor. He s still waiting 56 years later.
Retired Colonel Paris Davis is one of the first Black officers to be part of the Army s Special Forces. His courage and valor earned him the respect of his soldiers in Vietnam, and a nomination for the nation s highest military combat award.
But Davis never received his Medal of Honor his file vanished in Vietnam, nearly 56 years ago in 1965.
That year, Washington saw anti-war protests rage. Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama, galvanized the civil rights movement.  ....

His brothers repeatedly told the Army that Capt. Paris Davis deserved the Medal of Honor. The Army kept losing his paperwork… over and over again
What was overlooked in 1965 may come to fruition in 2021.

In Vietnam, in the middle of a raid on an enemy camp, Paris Davis was blown up by a grenade that blasted out several of his teeth and tore off part of his trigger finger. The enemy then started firing on the Special Forces team he commanded. His most experienced sergeant, Master Sergeant Billy Waugh, was shot. Then the demolitions specialist. History of wharves at Falmouth Docks: wood brought from Australia


The evolution of Falmouth Docks is a subject very close to my heart having spent decades researching all aspects relating to the facility. The building of the old wooden wharves is of particular interest.
Silley Cox purchased 98 acres of harbour fundus from the Duchy of Cornwall estate during the economic slump in the early 1930s.
Falmouth Harbour Commissioners gave approval to docks plans for building the new Empire wharf in November 1931. A month later the heavy lift vessel Belpareil arrived in Australia to load timber at Sydney and Brisbane for Falmouth.
Determined to support inter-Empire trade in 1931 Docks boss John Silley had placed an order worth £30,000 for Turpentine piles and decking with two Australian firms. ....

Shootouts in the Wild West are, in the popular imagination, full of stereotypes. Many movie-goers have seen Clint Eastwood as a lone drifter coming to mete out justice through the barrel of a gun or an all star team of gunslingers defending a village ravaged by bandits. The Wild West, and in particular its shootouts, are engraved into popular culture.
But are these shootouts true?
The violence of Wild West shootouts has many surprising historic kernels of truth. Where it differs is that these affairs of quick death were even more violent than imagined, and there was often little distinction between good guys and bad guys. Many of these gunfights involved brutal individuals who sometimes worked on the side of the law and sometimes did not. In most cases, drunkenness and gambling were involved.
