JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Former Jacksonville Sheriff Nathaniel “Nat” Glover will be inducted on Saturday into the Florida Law Enforcement Officers’ Hall of Fame.
Glover, 78, a law enforcement veteran with decades of experience, rose through the ranks of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was elected Florida’s first Black sheriff since the Reconstruction era in 1995.
Glover told News4Jax a little run-in with the law when he was growing up in Jacksonville shaped his future as a cop.

In 1865 U.S. President Abraham Lincoln is shot. On April 14, 1865, the assassin, John Wilkes Booth, wanted to revive the Confederate cause, mere days after its surrender to the Union Army, bringing the American Civil War to an end.
The 16th president of the United States was shot attending the play Our American Cousin at Ford s Theatre in Washington, D.C. Shot in the head as he watched the play, Lincoln died the following day at 7:22 a.m. in the Petersen House opposite the theater. The attack came only five days after Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his massive army at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, effectively ending the American Civil War.
