CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - Are you in need of a free COVID-19 test?
There is a drive-up COVID-19 testing pop-up behind held on Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. or until testing supplies run out.
The testing will be held at the Stark County Fairgrounds at 305 Wertz Avenue NW in Canton.
Anyone older than 2-years-old can get a COVID-19 test at no-cost with no appointment, but you must bring a driver’s license or state ID for registration. ....

Canton council has approved a $257 million temporary budget for 2021


CANTON  City Council on Monday approved a $257 million temporary budget for 2021. 
It allows city departments to spend money before the council adopts a permanent budget by the end of March, as required by state law.
We will do a bigger presentation on the budget when we cross into 2021, Finance Director Mark Crouse told council members. 
Councilwoman Christine Schulman, D-at large, and Councilman Frank Morris, D-9, were absent for the vote, which received no objections from those present.
The temporary budget includes $64 million in general fund appropriations with $19.4 million for the Police Department and $17.1 million for the Fire Department. There also is $12 million appropriated for capital projects, such as sewer and street work, according to city documents.    ....

Stark County will get its first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine tomorrow


CANTON  Stark County could have its first doses of the novel coronavirus vaccine Tuesday.
Aultman Hospital has been designated as one of the first 10 sites in the state to receive and distribute the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it s available. Those sites are expected to receive at least 975 doses of the two-shot vaccine.
On Monday, only Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus and the University of Cincinnati Medical Center had received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which received government approval for distribution.
The remaining eight sites will receive shipments Tuesday, Gov. Mike DeWine said.
Aultman expects to receive the vaccine and begin administering it to critical workers Tuesday or Wednesday, hospital spokesman Jason Clevenger said. ....

COVID-19 testing: Free drive-thru clinic Wednesday in Canton

CANTON  The local health department will hold a second round of drive-thru COVID-19 testing this week.
Canton City Public Health will be at the Stark County Fairgrounds, 305 Wertz Ave NW,  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Testing will be done by drive-thru only. It s free and no appointment or referral is required.
The turnout at last week’s COVID-19 testing event illustrates the need for testing within our community,” health Commissioner Jim Adams said in a prepared statement. 
Those who get tested should bring a driver s license or other state ID card for registration. Results will be available by Dec. 21 and can be found online at labcorp.com. ....

Vehicles queue for COVID testing at the Stark County Fairgrounds


CANTON  A line of vehicles on Wertz Avenue NW awaited entrance to the Stark County Fairgrounds from both directions Wednesday. 
People arrived as early as 7:30 a.m. to get a free COVID-19 test no registration required. Canton City Public Health and the Ohio National Guard partnered with other state and local agencies to host the event. 
Canton Health Commissioner James Adams said officials closed the gates about 2:30 p.m. when the site reached capacity. The last vehicle left the fairgrounds about 4 p.m., and a total of 661 tests were administered. 
We appreciate everybody s patience as they work through the process, Adams said. ....
