Kenya to prioritize conference tourism to boost hospitality sector - World News

Najib Balala, cabinet secretary of Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife told journalists in Nairobi that the country s tourism sector has been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 travel restrictions. Balala observed that the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) market is a resilient sector because it involves meetings of people from diverse sectors of the economy and can help the country reduce its dependence on beach and safari tourism.

Women in tourism poorly paid, says State marketer

This is despite the gender comprising 54 per cent of the total workforce. KTB Business Development Manager Fiona Ngesa however said the challenges were not unique to Kenya, but affect other countries.  According to the World Bank report titled ‘Woman and Tourism” 2017, women in the sector are yet to receive the same privileges, opportunities and rights as their male counterparts. The report cites gender pay gaps and under-representation in key decision making State or global organs as some of the challenges affecting the women in the tourism sector.

KNCB to work with counties to boost Mice sub sector

KNCB National Coordinator Jacinta Nzioka said the partnership with counties will form an integral part in the development of Meetings Incentives Conference and Exhibitions sector. We are reaching out to counties where we strongly believe there is immense potential and asking them to bid for events, Nzioka said, noting that they will ensure meetings conform with the Ministry of Health protocols.
