Three crews from Enniskillen Royal Boat Club made the journey to Henley Women’s Regatta last weekend with one crew reaching the semi finals of the competition and the other two crews the quarter finals which was a remarkable achievement. The competition didn’t happen last year due to Covid so everyone was delighted that the organisers were able to hold a safe event this year. The Junior Eight made it to the semi final, their crew comprising Nikki Kernaghan, Laura Turner, Niamh Cassidy, Chloe Thompson, Zoe Elliott, Katie Donnelly, Martha McBrien and cox Grace Ralph. The draw after Saturday morning’s time trial set them up in a heat against Tideway Scullers School on Saturday afternoon which they won by 2 ½ lengths in a time of four minutes and 43 seconds. ....
White Progressives are Hypocrites on Gentrification | Opinion On 6/3/21 at 8:00 AM EDT I once heard someone, who happens to be quite progressive and white, say the following, nearly verbatim: I live in Harlem. I feel awful about living in Harlem because I do not want to contribute to gentrification. In light of this, I am going to move to Bushwick. My response to this mainly out of politeness was a silent nod. Deep down, I was furrowing my brow. I found their proposition to be peculiar and paradoxical. I find the general progressive agenda concerning gentrification to be equally peculiar and paradoxical in a similar vein. Progressives are known to be against gentrification. They re very vocal about their opposition to it. And to their credit, gentrification is worthy of being criticized. It drives out residents from their hometowns. UGRA recipients are awarded a $1,000 scholarship as they work on mentored research and creative projects. Students apply for UGRAs by writing a four-page research proposal under the guidance of a mentor. Faculty reviewers evaluate the applications based on the merit of the applicant s proposal and a recommendation from the mentor. “Undergraduate research allows students to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world problems, and experiential learning opportunities like these add richness to their educational journey at KU,” said Alison Olcott, director of the Center for Undergraduate Research and associate professor of geology. ....
