Job portal targets veterans in Marshall County

PLYMOUTH, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) The Marshall County Economic Development Corp. has launched a website designed to attract military veterans to the county. The organization says the job portal will connect veterans with jobs in Marshall County that match their skill sets.
The portal allows veterans to search for available jobs by military occupation classification, or simply review all jobs posted in the area. Veterans will also have the ability to post their resumes, which employers can review.
“Marshall County industry and businesses are consistently looking for well trained quality team members to grow,” Kevin Overmyer, president of the Marshall County Commissioners, said in a news release. “This effort will market these opportunities to veterans as they look for a place of employment in the civ ....

The Marshall County Commissioners are very happy that a private company submitted bid to handle the mowing of the county right-of-ways for 2021.
The County Highway Department budgeted $30,000 for the mowing crew and $7,500 for the supervisor in 2021. Superintendent Jason Peters says the Highway Department spends about $30,000 on equipment and repairs each year along with $20,000 for fuel and $5,000 for damages. That is over $92,000 each year.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said, “I’m really looking forward to not having to mow the county roads and I’m sure the Highway Department is because it is a very costly project.” He said the equipment costs along with fuel and manpower is a huge undertaking on top of the daily activities of the Highway Department. Overmyer said, “Hopefully we can have a long-term relationship with this company and get rid of some of our headaches.” ....

Commissioners Vote 2-1 on Joint Special LIT Resolution | WTCA FM 106.1 and AM 1050 The Best, Music, News and Sports

The Marshall County Commissioners passed a joint resolution with the County Council during their meeting last week that will send a message to the Indiana legislation concerning the Special Local Income Tax (LIT) used to pay the jail bond and operate the jail.
The Special LIT captures a quarter-of-a-percent on income from the county and those funds are used to pay the bond payments for the jail. A portion of the excess funds from the Special LIT have been used for operating cost of the Marshall County Correctional Facility for years.
The Commissioners and Council members are seeking approval from the legislation to allow the county to continue using Special LIT funds for operating expenses at the jail after payment of the bonds for the construction of the jail are over. ....

Commissioners Extend Public Health Disaster Emergency Declaration, Thanks Citizens, Dept. Heads and Employees | WTCA FM 106.1 and AM 1050 The Best, Music, News and Sports

On Monday the Marshall County Commissioners extended the Public Health Disaster Emergency Declaration for another seven days, or until Tuesday, December 29th. This marks the 10
th consecutive week the county has been under the declaration.
The declaration allows the county to authorize any protection necessary for the protection of the citizens in Marshall County.
While the resolution specifically orders office holders and employees to comply with emergency measures, it also requests citizens to follow any mandates and recommendations set forth by county officials including the commissioners and county health officer.
During Monday’s commissioner meeting, President Kevin Overmyer took a few minutes to say some special thanks. Commissioners Reluctant to Approve 2021 Sheriff's Contract | WTCA FM 106.1 and AM 1050 The Best, Music, News and Sports

When it came time for the Marshall County Commissioners to consider the Sheriff’s contract for 2021 during their meeting on Monday, there was some reluctance.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger said the contact was identical to the same one passed for the several years except for the amount. Next year the sheriff is to be paid $91,125.80.
Commissioner Mike Burroughs motioned to approve the contract and Commissioner Stan Klotz asked if the contract was up for discussion or asked if they were “obligated by law to just rubber stamp it?” Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said that it’s in the salary ordinance so there’s really nothing we can do about it. ....
