Puente was arrested after filming police interacting with his son, Dillon, who was pulled over for making a wide turn. Dillon became one of 64,100 Texans arrested in 2019 for a Class C misdemeanor. ....

(WAFF) - Nursing students in the Shoals are helping in the fight against COVID. They’re also getting some valuable experience. People 75 and older started to receive the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday here in Colbert County. Nursing students at Northwest-Shoals Community College are helping give those vaccines. On Thursday, several students helped to give more than 500 vaccines. Nursing instructor, NiKki Thompson, said the partnership with Helen Keller Hospital gives students hands on experience. ....
Jan 6, 2021 WASHINGTON – 12th Congressional District representative Fred Keller, a republican, has denounced the chaotic protest that erupted at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday afternoon. Angry supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol aimed at thwarting a peaceful transfer of power, forcing lawmakers to be rushed from the building and interrupting challenges to Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory. “The violence happening at the U.S. Capitol is shameful, completely unacceptable, and un-America. This is not how our Republic should operate and the rioters must be fully prosecuted. God bless our Capitol police and first responders,” Keller posted on social media Wednesday. ....

But residents expressed concern more wasn’t being done to punish the officers involved. According to Fortune, the sergeant in charge has been demoted two ranks and temporarily removed from patrol but will not be fired. The officer seen pepper-spraying Puente will face no punishment after the department determined he was only following orders. “If you are told to do wrong, that doesn’t mean you have to do wrong,” said Marco Puente. Puente said he believes considerable work needs to be done to rebuild trust with the community and urged other residents to be vocal about their concerns. “The first step has been done, the apology by the chief and these promises, that’s step one – step two is action,” said Puente. ....
