At the end of a process that drew some criticism, the Kennebunk Select Board on Tuesday appointed Gayle Asmussen Spofford to complete an unfinished term on the school board. Spofford succeeds Josiah Currier, who resigned last Friday, citing personal reasons, without participating in a single school board meeting as a member. Spofford will serve the remainder of the term, which ends June 30. Spofford, who has a background in accounting, was appointed over four other candidates: salesperson Kortney Nedeau; educator and former attorney Claudia Sayre; educator David Wayne; and Peter Sentner, who has a background in social work and policy writing. ....

An agenda for this Monday s meeting of the RSU 21 board includes a notice of Josiah Currier s resignation. Town and school board officials confirmed that Currier submitted his resignation Friday morning. In his brief resignation letter, Currier said he needed to resign for unanticipated personal reasons and apologized for his inability to accept the school board seat after all, according to school board Chair Art LeBlanc. The decision came as a surprise to LeBlanc, who said RSU 21 established an email account for Currier and gave him a variety of information about school board procedures. ....
