Incumbents prevail in Arundel election, with write-in for RSU 21 seat

ARUNDEL, Maine  The election on Tuesday, June 8, was a good one for incumbents, and for a write-in candidate too. Incumbents Daniel Dubois and Philip Labbe each won three-year terms on the Arundel Board of Selectmen, according to unofficial results provided by Town Clerk Emily Nedeau after the polls closed Tuesday. Labbe received 220 votes, and Dubois was close behind with 216. Challenger and newcomer Rod Sparkowich placed third in the race with 59 nods from voters. For the town s Budget Board, incumbents Shawn Hayes and Michelle Allen each secured another three-year term. Hayes got 193 votes; Allen, 191. Another challenger and newcomer on the ballot, Michael Monk, received 72 votes.

If the nomination papers currently in circulation are any indication, several candidates are poised to throw their hats into the proverbial ring to run for office during the elections in local towns this June. Nomination papers in Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel, Wells and Ogunquit became available at town clerks’ offices in late February and are due back there by Friday, April 9. Here s a rundown of how the races are shaping up: Kennebunk In Kennebunk, Deputy Town Clerk Carrie Weeman reported Monday that six people have taken out nomination papers for the trio of three-year Select Board seats currently occupied by Wayne Berry, Edward Karytko and Shiloh Schulte.

Early signs of heightened interest in Kennebunk 2021 local elections KENNEBUNK, Maine – Nomination papers won t be available until later this month for those who wish to run for office during this June s local elections, but Town Clerk Merton Brown said people are already showing an earlier-than-usual interest in them. Early interest is a good indicator that interest is heightened,  he said. Brown said several people started calling his office more than three weeks ago to ask procedure-related questions about the nomination papers, which will be available at the Kennebunk Town Hall starting Feb. 26. Such early interest is a first, he said.
