Sammilita Samajik Andolon, a citizen s platform, today demanded the government to stop giving admission to non-indigenous students in the reserved or quota seats allotted for ethnic minority students.
A statement signed by 22 eminent citizens of the country also demanded proper investigation in this regard and termed the whole process as irregular.
As per the statement, ethnic minority students are allowed to get admission in reserved seats provided by the government in 37 government medical colleges of Bangladesh which are run under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. ....

The topic of today s discussion is critical. The majority of our population is still dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. In our journey towards self-sufficiency in food production and food sovereignty, agriculture will play a central role. Women s contribution to these sectors has to be recognised. Women have always had a role in agriculture, but they have never been given proper recognition. The male farmers I have spoken to before would always suggest that the women were not making any economic contribution. But this was a completely false presumption because the process of converting the paddy to rice to be sold in the markets was done entirely by the women. Women also play a significant role in rearing farm animals such as ducks, chickens, cows, and goats. They even cult ....

Four grassroots leaders have been recognised with Nasreen Smriti Padak yesterday for their outstanding contributions to women empowerment and society.
The award is a signature initiative of ActionAid Bangladesh in memory of Nasreen Parvin Huq, former country director of the organisation.
The awardees are Susmita Sultana Swarnali, a student of Chattogram, MS Hasna Begum, an agro-based entrepreneur from Gaibandha, and MS Rani Begum, a farmer from Gaibandha and Sohanur Rahman, a social worker of Jhalakathi.
They were awarded for their contributions towards women leadership in the local government system, entrepreneurship in agriculture, leadership in Covid-19 response and setting an example against sexual harassment and abuse, respectively. ....
