It is Farmer Kev and one of his favourite old cows. She will have calved by now – on the fell! LAST week I travelled to Strudda Bank Farm near Calder Bridge. My first farm visit in over a year, writes Farmer columnist Adam Day. I’ve been going there every April for at least 26 years. During that time, I’ve watched a young farmer and his wife build a business and raise a family through good times and bad. Every year we take a trip up Cold Fell, where even in April, Kevin and Yvonne’s cattle graze. The views are spectacular from Snowdonia to Isle of Whithorn. ....
Plans to reduce workforce car numbers entering Sellafield 11/03/2021 Sellafield has committed itself to âambitiousâ targets on promoting sustainable travel, including a focus on encouraging a reduction in car use by its workforce. The latest version of Sellafieldâs Travel Plan outlines a number of goals the firm is aiming for in the coming years, including a target to reduce the number of vehicles entering the site each day from more than 6,000 to as low as 4,000. The plan has been shared with Cumbria County Council, and its local committee for Copeland, made up of county councillors representing the area, considered the proposals at its meeting last week. ....

Robin Oliver, who grew at a farm at the foot of Cold Fell has penned Valentine s Day on the Farm, A Lifetime Wedded to Hard Graft, about the area he loves and February 14 visits to a heart shaped mound of stones at a fell s summit. Robin said: It is about recording a moment or feeling captured in time. A response to what is there in front of you, imagined, or memories from childhood.
