National Museum USAF to Open an Aircraft One Day Each Month

PRESS RELEASE -The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will continue to provide the unique opportunity for visitors to get an up-close look inside a different aircraft from the collection each month on select days from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
In honor of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds performing in the 2021 Dayton Air Show, visitors will be able to look inside the cockpits of the museum’s two Thunderbird aircraft, the F-16A Fighting Falcon and the F-100D Super Sabre on Friday, July 9. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about these aircraft from museum volunteers Col. (Ret.) Frank Alfter, a former F-16 aircraft maintenance and munitions officer, and Col. (Ret.) Jack Wilson, a former F-100 pilot. ....

National Museum USAF to Open an Aircraft One Day Each Month

Beginning in April 2021, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will provide the opportunity for visitors to get an up-close look inside a different aircraft from the collection each month on select days from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.  On Saturday, April 17, visitors will be able to walk through the AC-130A Spectre, which is a C-130 converted to a gunship and primarily used for night attacks against ground targets. Learn about this aircraft from six U.S. Air Force veterans: Col. (Ret.) Frank Alfter, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Larry Flinn, Col. (Ret.) Tom Gardner, Col. (Ret.) Carl Peirolo, Col. (Ret.) New Air Force Museum exhibit spotlights women's integral roles in the service

DAYTON, Ohio (Tribune News Service) Women have played integral roles in Air Force history even before there was an Air Force, and a new exhibit at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force brings new attention to that dimension of military history.
The exhibit, titled Women in the Air Force: From Yesterday into Tomorrow, surveys historical milestones, changes in laws and attitudes and the many contributions of women to the Air Force mission.
Air Force Museum Curator Christina Douglass said the role of women in aviation, the U.S. Army Air Corps and the Air Force has never been neglected at the museum. But this exhibit ties strands of history together in new ways that makes the subject ripe for exploration. ....
