Providing basic needs of life top priority of govt: Ghulam Sarwar

TAXILA: Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan has said that provision of basic necessities of life to the people is top priority of the present government.
He said this while addressing a public gathering on Sunday at village Puswal in suburb of Taxila city after opening ceremony of gas supply to six villages. He said that at least six villages Paswal, Ban Baba gee, Haklaw, Dhoke Ghulab, Dhoke Aksar Khan would be provided gas and also other basic needs soon.
While criticising Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), he said that it is the manifesto of PML-N to steal election. ....

Cong leader Mallikarjun Kharge is new Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha

Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu accorded his approval to Congress president Sonia Gandhi s request for appointing Kharge in place of Azad, who retired from the Upper House on February 15 after being the leader of opposition for over six years.
The Chairman, Rajya Sabha, has accorded recognition to Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Indian National Congress Party in the Rajya Sabha, as the leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha w.e.f February 16, 2021, in terms of Section 2 of the Salary and Allowances of Leaders of Opposition in Parliament Act, 1977 and rules made thereunder, a Parliament bulletin said.
Consequent upon the expiry of his term of office as a member of the Rajya Sabha on February 15, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has ceased to be the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha w.e.f the said date, it said. ....

Srinagar: With Ghulam Nabi Azad and Nazir Ahmad Laway completing their terms as Rajya Sabha members on Monday, Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory doesn t now have any representatives in the Upper House of Parliament.
While Fayaz Ahmad Mir(PDP)and Shamsher Singh Manhas(BJP) ceased to be members of the House on February 10, Azad and Laway completed their six-year terms as RS members today.
With this, Jammu & Kashmir has lost representation in the Rajya Sabha and there are no immediate chances of the Union Territory again sending its members to the House as the Assembly elections are still far away. Similar situation had also arisen twice since 1952. ....

New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) The outgoing Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said that he counts himself among those fortunate ones who did not go to Pakistan and felt proud of being a Hindustani Muslim.
Recollecting his memories, he said during his college days in Jammu and Kashmir, both August 14 and August 15 used to be celebrated. The majority used to celebrate August 14 but they always celebrated the Independence day on August 15. “When I read about the conditions in Pakistan, I feel proud that we are Hindustani Muslims. We are seeing that Muslim countries are fighting amongst each other, there are no Hindus there or Christians”, he said. He also said that he used get 100 per cent of Kashmiri Pandit votes while contesting University elections. ....
