STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. About 50 people gathered outside Mac’s Public House Friday night just hours after its owner, general manager and an attorney had their latest brush with the city’s sheriff’s officers.
Danny Presti, the shuttered Grant City bar’s general manager, addressed the crowd and the disappointment they felt at the small turnout.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Even without its liquor license and Health Department permit reinstated, Mac’s Public House in Grant City plans its reopening at some point in the next few weeks, says general manager Danny Presti. He first announced the defiance at a Monday morning press conference held inside the restaurant.

Right now, Mac’s awaits a Zoom hearing over civil litigation. The case had been rescheduled from Feb. 2 to March 12.
The Grant City eatery was launched into the national spotlight as it refused to follow government COVID-19 restrictions and subsequently became a flashpoint for protests. The bar then came under fire when general manager Danny Presti allegedly ran his car into a sheriff’s deputy in the street. A grand jury declined to indict Presti on assault and reckless endangerment.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A 19-year-old man has been charged with firing a gun into a car in Mariners Harbor in September, killing one man and wounding another.
Godkhaliq Daugherty, of the 200 block of Park Hill Avenue in Clifton, stands accused in the deadly assault on Sept. 14 at about 1 p.m. near the corner of Richmond Terrace and Lockman Avenue.
