MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Tennessee Department of Health said public comments Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris made alerted state investigators to “yet another significant violation” with the Shelby County Health Department’s vaccine management.
Harris spoke to reporters on Wednesday about the investigation into how the Shelby County Health Department wasted 2,400 vaccine doses.
Harris criticized Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and his administration and appeared to blame them for Shelby County’s vaccine problems. ....

A private meeting of county commissioners, attorneys and the director of the Shelby County Health Department could have been a violation of the state’s Open Meetings Act, said Deborah Fisher, executive director of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government.
“If they’re hearing about something they’re going to be making some big decisions on, that should be open,” Fisher said. “They were getting information and considering what their obligations were under the law in terms of vaccine distribution, they were considering the political response, so I don’t see how it can’t not be required to be an open meeting.” ....

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Commissioners are saying they want to do what’s in their power to support the Shelby County Health Department in administering vaccines quickly.
This comes after constituents reached out to them about the issues they had trying to get a vaccine at the Pipkin building this week.
They said they reached out to the health department to understand what was going on.
Some answers they said weren’t clear, but they’re set to support the department in this major venture of vaccinating the community. ....
