Newport-based developer Harvey, Hanna & Associates recently announced plans to open a Lewes hotel next summer. The 105-room hotel is being built near the intersection of Route 1 and Marsh Road near Five Points Square. It will be a Hyatt House, the company s extended stay brand offering suite rooms with kitchenettes. The plan for the hotel won approval in fall 2019. Harvey, Hanna & Associates (HHA) says it recently broke ground on the site. The new hotel will be next to a Home2Suites by Hilton that opened in September. That hotel is owned by the Caggiano family of Nicola s Pizza. The Hyatt House is one of several new hotels developed near the Delaware beaches in the past two years, and the second Hyatt project in Delaware by HHA. The developer built the Hyatt Place hotel in Dewey Beach, which opened in 2013. ....

The landlord of a townhouse community in Bear committed fraud by inflating the cost of low-income units for more than six years, a federal lawsuit alleges. The United States Attorneyâs Office in Delaware filed the civil complaint against Goodfish Enterprises LLC and its principal, Christopher Lukacs, who own 94 homes in the Sparrow Run neighborhood, formerly known as Brookmont Farms. The suit alleges that Goodfish filed fraudulent documents as part of its participation in the Department of Housing and Urban Developmentâs Housing Choice Voucher Program, commonly known as Section 8. Tenants in the program pay 30 to 40 percent of their income toward rent, and the federal government pays the rest. In order for a landlord to participate in the property, it must charge a âreasonableâ rent as compared to similar units in the private market and cannot charge a higher rate for Section 8 units than it does for comparable units whose tenants do not receive gov ....
