This Limpopo woman was fighting breast cancer when she was diagnosed with COVID-19. Ntsako Manganyi’s treatment was already disrupted by the pandemic’s restrictions.
Just a day before she was due for life-saving cancer surgery, Ntsako Manganyi tested positive for COVID-19.  With the surgery postponed, the 33-year-old had to come to terms with fighting two potentially fatal illnesses breast cancer and the coronavirus.
 “The experience was a bit scary for me as I was scared of dying, considering the number of people who died of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in the country and some of them did not even have any of the chronic illness,” said Manganyi. ....

As he steps down from the country’s national COVID-19 advisory committee, Professor Karim Abdool Karim says government has set a ‘new standard of transparency’ in its communication over the vaccine acquisition process. Karim also dismissed rumours that he was leaving the committee over professional differences.
Outgoing chairman of the COVID-19 Ministerial Advisory Committee Professor Karim Abdool Karim said the South African government has been “very open” about acquiring vaccines for the national rollout. Instead, Karim has urged the nation to trust the government’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout. ....
