Pandemic creates 'perfect storm' for eating disorders

When you re a person with an eating disorder, said Mary Tantillo, the director of the Western New York Comprehensive Care Center for Easting Disorders, your enemies are uncertainty, ambiguity, unpredictability.
That s why, she said, there s been a surge in new eating disorder cases in the past year. The coronavirus pandemic, combined with social and political unrest in the past year, created a perfect storm for the disorders that affect nearly 1 in 10 Americans.

A licensed family nurse practitioner in Grand Rapids, specializing in complex developmental trauma (CDT), launched Healing Connection, a trauma-informed resource for training and advocacy for childhood trauma-related education.
Bethany Hall is a certified affiliate trainer in trauma-competent care giving by Trauma Free World, a nonprofit organization that provides training all around the world to those dedicated to ending childhood trauma.
Through Healing Connection, Hall utilizes in-person and virtual training to teach the neuroscience of trauma, as well as conduct screenings, assessments and interventions, which can increase therapeutic and healing interactions for those working with children who have experienced CDT. ....

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â A local pediatric nurse recently launched a trauma-informed resource for training and advocacy for childhood trauma-related education.
Bethany Hall, a licensed family nurse practitioner in Grand Rapids who specializes in complex developmental trauma, launched Healing Connection, a news release said Thursday.
Hall is a certified affiliate trainer in trauma competent caregiving by Trauma Free World.
She uses in-person and virtual platforms to teach the neuroscience of trauma, as well as conduct screenings, assessments and interventions.
Those can all be used to increase therapeutic and healing interactions for those working with or caring for children who have experienced CDT. ....

In some Christian faith traditions a “blue Christmas service” is a more low-key and subdued service designed to comfort those who grieve, said Sarah Rosser-Olivieri, director of Youth Ministry at Hollidaysburg First United Methodist Church.
“It’s a service we have separate from the Christmas Eve or cantata services. It’s focused around individuals with depression, anxiety or those who have lost a loved one no matter how recent or long ago. It’s for anyone who struggles around the holidays. The purpose of the service is to offer hope.” ....
