OBITUARY: Mahmud Tukur, Mamman Daura's Ally who 'Linked Buhari With Aisha'

In an interesting piece written sometime in 2019, Eric Teniola, a columnist, went down memory lane in recalling how cabinet members of Buhari’s military regime planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence in a special way. Ahead of the big day, they ordered a material which was to be worn by all ministers. But sadly, they never wore it as their government was toppled by General Ibrahim Babangida on August 27, 1985.
As documented by Teniola, 34 years later when Buhari hosted former members of his cabinet at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, all eyes were on one person: Major General Mohammed Magoro, who was Minister of Internal Affairs under the regime. Magoro had worn that particular material to the villa, bringing back memories. But one person who was conspicuously missing at that meeting was Tukur. Can Ondo State Quit Criminal Fulani Herdsmen?

By Sam Amadi
Introduction
A few weeks ago, the Nigerian Government faced a volatile situation that threatened to swell into a major national conflict. The crisis has many constitutional implications. These violent attacks and other forms of criminality, like kidnapping and banditry, result in huge economic losses. The nation loses an estimated N300 billion from this conflict. But, the graver result of violence by Fulani herdsmen, is how much it is weakening national unity and encouraging ethnic profiling, hate speeches and deterioration of State autonomy. The Nigerian State has come under much strain, especially since the Buhari administration, for failure to respond to the terrorism and criminality ....

UK MPs suggest human rights conditions imposed in UK-India trade deals | India News

LONDON: Several British MPs have called for human rights provisions to be included in any future trade deal with India, after debating in the House of Commons the persecution being experienced by minorities.
MPs from various parties including the Conservatives took part in the backbench debate on Tuesday on the persecution of Muslims, Christians and other minority groups in India.
Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) MP Jim Shannon called on the UK government “to ensure that robust human rights provisions are included in any future trade and investment agreement.”
“Violations of freedom of religious belief lead to domestic conflict, which is good neither for India’s economic prosperity, nor for the chances of a stable, long-term trading relationship between India and the UK,” he said. ....
