Dedham celebrates Earth Day with annual spring cleanup Ariane Komyati, Correspondent DEDHAM The town is celebrating Earth Day all April long with its annual Spring Clean Up. Community members can join the groups Dedham Civic Pride, Dedham Junior Women’s Club, Department of Public Works, Parks & Recreation Department and Open Space Committee for “#Just1BagDedham” and pledge to pick up one bag of trash through April 25. Dedham community members and families can pick up a bag (or more) of trash. Participants can then log their efforts on the site https://bit.ly/Just1BagDedham and watch Dedham’s collective efforts add up. Those that log their bags will be entered to win raffle prizes. ....
A derelict building in Bishop Auckland town centre that was last open as Beales department store A FACEBOOK group has been created to raise awareness to the council of how ‘unhappy’ residents have become with the condition of their town and the local surrounding areas. The non-political community group ‘let’s clean up Bishop Auckland’, started by town resident Brian Sutton, has attracted nearly 700 members on Facebook, including MP Dehenna Davison, Durham County Councillors, and Bishop Auckland Town Councillors. The main aim of the group is to highlight town issues, including fly tipping, a lack of litter bins on main roads in the area, rat and pigeon infestations around Morrison’s and the Cockton Hill area, and an increase in dog mess in many of the main thoroughfares. ....
A TEAM of volunteers who worked tirelessly to get Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline health workers during the pandemic have been recognised for their efforts. The group - Addingham Visor Army - raised thousands of pounds to source and distribute visors to Airedale Hospital and local GPs. Now Addingham Civic Society has presented the seven women with Civic Pride Awards. Due to lockdown they met in the centre of the village to receive the awards and couldn’t even shake hands. The wording on their certificates says: “A Civic Pride Award in recognition of the huge effort made by the group to fund, produce and deliver personal protective equipment for front line workers during the 2019 Covid-19 Pandemic.” ....

The borough’s Neighbourhoods and Streetscene team was recently announced as a finalist for the Outstanding Service Delivery award as part of the charity s Network Awards 2021. Redbridge s recognition follows its work in curbing a rise in fly-tipping at the beginning of the pandemic between March and June 2020. In response to working in this new normal, the team introduced a number of anti fly-tipping measures under the new initiative Synergy in Civic Pride: One big challenge. One brilliant Team. ....
