Right there, Juan says, pointing the tip of his spear. Through the murky water I can spot the flash of iridescence and the skittering claws of a mud crab. Juan stands still, points his spear, hovers it just above the water, and then jabs.
You might recognise Juan. Sharp-eyed foodies will have seen him on the only episode of the Netflix food show
Chef s Table: BBQ to feature an Australian cook – in this case, Firedoor s Lennox Hastie. During the episode, Hastie journeys up to far-northern Queensland to discover the source of his seafood-heavy cuisine, going out to spear a mud crab and then cook it over hot coals on a deserted beach with an Indigenous guide. ....

Australia's beloved Olympian Cathy Freeman makes rare National Sorry Day plea to do 'what is right'

Freeman, now 48, rarely makes major public comments but on National Sorry Day she spoke powerfully in support of constitutional change.
The time is now for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voice to be enshrined in Australia s Constitution, Freeman tweeted.

Aboriginal organisations link up to address racism in health and justice

A coalition of Aboriginal organisations are building momentum for their initiative that advocates for victims of preventable deaths within the health and justice system.
The Partnership for Justice in Health was formed in 2017 to pursue and demand a change to the shocking mortality rates of First Nations people within the two systems. It has now launched a website and is calling for national action.
The initiative cites the death of Wiradjuri woman Naomi Williams and her unborn child at Tumut Hospital in January 2016 as a major catalyst for their push for change. A coronial inquest into Ms Williams death prompted that health district to address the levels of implicit bias and improve its representation of Indigenous workers. ....
