Overstated rates force buyers to leave markets without sacrificial animals July 19, 2021 Rawalpindi : With only two days left for the Eid-ul-Azha, the buyers flocking cattle markets in Rawalpindi are left with little option, but to return home without buying sacrificial animals. Residents, who arrived here at Bhatta Chowk sale point along with their jubilant children, told this agency on Sunday that the animal sellers were demanding exorbitant prices which were beyond their purchasing power. Ghais Haider, a buyer at the market, said last year he purchased a small goat of 25 kilograms against Rs30,000, but now the same animal was being sold at up to Rs60,000 which showed that the rate of sacrificial animal had gone up by 100 per cent. ....
3 sacrificial animals markets in capital, 10 in Rawalpindi July 12, 2021 Islamabad : The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has set up three markets in the outskirts of the federal capital to allow sale and purchase of sacrificial animals ahead of Eidul Azha. The sale points were established in suburban areas including Bhara Kahu, Taramri, and Tarnol in compliance with the anti-coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the district administration to curb the virus spread, MCI Administrator Syeda Shafaq Hashmi told this agency. “It is the responsibility of MCI to provide opportunity to citizens of Islamabad to perform their religious duties along with safety measures,” she noted. ....

Representative image RANCHI: A 26-year-old contractual employee at sadar hospital was found dead in the hospital on Tuesday night. Although hospital sources told deceased Rahul Sharma’s family that he killed himself, his father Harihar Baitha has alleged foul play and submitted a written complaint at Lower Bazaar police station on Wednesday, accusing two of Rahul’s colleagues of murdering him. As per the complaint, a copy of which is with TOI, Baitha said that he had spoken to his son around 9:30pm on Tuesday night and he was doing fine. But around 11:30pm, a co-worker called him to inform that his son is dead. “I have been told that Vaibhav Soren and Sakendra Kumar Thakur are behind my son’s death as they had an altercation with him three days ago and had beat him up badly,” Baitha said. ....
Ranchi: In a landmark judgment, the Jharkhand high court struck down payment of victim compensation as a condition for bail. In a detailed judgement, Justice Ananda Sen said payment of victim compensation should not be considered as a condition for obtaining or granting bail to an accused in a criminal case. The issue was discussed in a 27-page judgment citing Supreme Court cases when Justice Sen was dealing with an order passed in an anticipatory bail petition on January 20, 2020 by the Ranchi Judicial Commissioner directing accused Sumit Shaw, Amit Shaw, Aweez Kamal and Sanchita Malakar to pay Rs 1 lakh as victim compensation to Mauman Alam. ....
