Doctors turn to farming Urban garden established inside government hospital

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Doctors here are promoting holistic health quite literally in their own backyard which is also designated as a COVID referral hospital  in Zamboanga Peninsula.
FARMING MEDS. Medical staff of the Zamboanga City Medical Center Chief of Hospital tend to their facility’s urban vegetable garden in Zamboanga City.
Last week, medical workers at the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) trooped to a portion of the hospital premises to harvest the first batch of leafy greens from its very own urban vegetable garden, a joint project by ZCMC Hospital Administrator Dr. Afdal Kunting together with Kids Who Farm and the ZCMC dietary staff. ....

A garden of hope: Community garden is a source of food, profit, and hope for community members displaced by the Zamboanga Siege

Displacement is an unfortunate reality for many Filipinos, who are forced to temporarily or permanently leave their homes due to conflict or natural disaster. Aside from the trauma of unwillingly having to leave one’s place of residence due to circumstance, one of the biggest immediate concerns is food security. 
In September 2013, a clash between the Philippine military and a faction of the Moro National Liberation Front (MILF) in Zamboanga City resulted in days of urban warfare and the displacement of over 100,000 people. The event is known as the Zamboanga City crisis or the Zamboanga Siege.
Some of the displaced residents were settled in Tulungatung, Zamboanga City through a government sponsored housing project. One of them is Kagawad Gemma Bahani, a very active member of the community. Bahani, a factory worker, is also the president of the Urban Poor San Antonio Homeowners Association (HOA) and of the Rural Improvement Club ....
