Aside from the trauma of unwillingly having to leave one’s place of residence due to circumstance, one of the biggest immediate concerns is food security. In September 2013, a clash between the Philippine military and a faction of the Moro National Liberation Front (MILF) in Zamboanga City resulted in days of urban warfare and the displacement of over 100,000 people. The event is known as the Zamboanga City crisis or the Zamboanga Siege. Some of the displaced residents were settled in Tulungatung, Zamboanga City through a government sponsored housing project. One of them is Kagawad Gemma Bahani, a very active member of the community.
